How were you first introduced to Cleveland Chiropractic College?
"Dr. Jake Akerson ’07 was a family friend growing up and just a few years older than me. He went to CCC to earn his Doctor of Chiropractic degree. When I decided I wanted to pursue a career in chiropractic, both he and his wife Jackie (who works in admissions) encouraged me to check out Cleveland."
Who or what inspired you to pursue chiropractic?
"I've wrestled most of my life. I got banged up a couple times over the years and, even though my chiropractor was able to help me a lot, I didn't utilize him as much as I should have. I realized in college that my teammates and I could have performed much better on the mat if we would have had better access to a chiropractor. I had already been considering going into this profession, but that realization confirmed to me that chiropractic was my calling."
What has been your favorite CCC course so far?
"Any course where I can learn about chiropractic adjusting techniques and/ or soft tissue work. I love the hands on learning style and working at developing my treatment skills."
What has been your favorite memory at CCC so far?
"The "pie in the face contest" sponsored by SACA this year was definitely a highlight. I not only got to see a couple of professors get pied but I was able to pie Andy Dunlap. Very satisfying!”
What do you like best about the College's campus?
"One of the things I like best about our campus is that it is very visible from I-435. When I talk about our school to people in the community they know where it is and always note the nice looking lawn. Also, I think the visibility and the fact that our school is up on a big hill shows a sense of pride that says we are proud of who we are and what we are doing. Chiropractic is a great profession and we have a lot to be proud about."
How do you feel your education has prepared you for the national board exams?
"Boards were a breeze, I don't know why everyone gets so worked up about them. Maybe at other schools you have to worry about being prepared for the boards, but not here."
What do you hope to do after graduation?
"I don’t know where I will be after graduation, but I want to be a chiropractor in a smaller community. I really want to get to know my patients personally and be able to have a big effect on the community. I believe a chiropractor on a committee, such as a school board, is in a great position to help make some healthy and important decisions or changes in a community. I also want to be involved with a lot of athletics."
