Anita M. Mork, B.S., M.S.

Ms. Mork received her B.S. degree in kinesiology/anatomy in 1977 from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and her M.S. degree in kinesiology/anatomy from UCLA in 1980. She has been a faculty member at the College since September of 1987. Currently, she serves as chair for the Basic Sciences Department and an associate professor of basic science. She has taught histology, extremities anatomy and neuroanatomy, and is a member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society.

Alexander J. Annala, M.S., M.S., Ph.D.

Dr. Annala received an M.S. in Management of Information Systems – Information Science Program, from The Claremont Graduate School, Claremont, Calif., in 1985. In 1990 he received his M.S. in biology with a focus on molecular biology, and in 1995 he received his Ph.D. in biology with an emphasis in neurobiology, both from the University of Southern California. Annala has been with the College since 2006 and his teaching experience includes a wide range of courses including, but not limited to Gross Anatomy/Histology/Neuroanatomy, Cell Physiology, Cardiovascular/Pulmonary Physiology, Endocrine/Reproductive Physiology, Gastrointestinal/Renal Physiology and Neurophysiology.

Lily P. Cabellon, M.D.

Dr. Cabellon received her medical degree from Manila Central University in the Philippines. She has been with the College since 1994, and currently maintains a part-time schedule at CCCLA. Cabellon has taught Spinal Anatomy lab, Thorax, Abdomen, and Pelvis lecture and lab, Extremities Anatomy lab and Head and Neck Anatomy lecture and lab.

Lucila T. Calimag, M. D.

Dr. Calimag received her pre-med degree from the University of the Philippines and her medical degree from Far Eastern University, Philippines. She was on a rotating internship at Silliman University Medical Center, Philippines, and did postgraduate work in clinical sciences at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, N. J. She was a professor at Pasadena Chiropractic College from 1976-1980 and joined the faculty of Cleveland Chiropractic College-Los Angeles in 1980. Calimag was a clinician from 1985-93 and Department chair of the Diagnostic Sciences from 1990-95. She was a committee member of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (associated sciences) from 1999-2001. Calimag has taught Physiology; Pathology; Dermatology; Physical Diagnosis; Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat; Obstetrics and Gynecology; Systemic Anatomy; Clinical Laboratory Diagnosis; Public Health; Pediatrics and Geriatrics.

Daryl Capen, B.S., M.A., D.C.

Dr. Capen earned a B.S. in Physical Education from Whittier College in Whittier, Calif., in 1984. In 1986, he completed a Master’s of Occupational Therapy from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash. Following a successful career in occupational therapy, Capen earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Cleveland Chiropractic College-Los Angeles in 2003, graduating with honors. He currently enjoys a busy teaching schedule including coursework in both the Basic and Chiropractic Science Departments. Capen maintains a private practice in Whittier, and spends his free time with his family, teaching Sunday school and attending chiropractic seminars.

Sion Daftari, B.S., M.S., D.C.
Instructor
Dr. Daftari received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in anatomy and physiology at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, and his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Columbia Chiropractic College in New York. He taught anatomy, human physiology, and microbiology at NY Chiropractic College, SUNY, and Fairleigh Dickinson at the undergraduate and graduate levels for over twenty years, and has on the faculty at Cleveland Chiropractic College-Los Angeles (CCCLA) since 2005. Daftari served as an editor for the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners from 2001 until 2005, and also served as an independent medical examiner for workman’s compensation in the state of New York. He is currently licensed to practice chiropractic in the states of New York, New Jersey, and California. Dr. Daftari’s research publications include: "Effects of toluene on pseudomonas fluorescence and its resultant effects on DNA, RNA, and extracellular enzymes" and "Functional anatomy and histology of peripheral regions of bronchial tree, alveoli and pneumoconiosis."

Susan Deno, B.S., M.A.

Deno received her B.S. from Loyola Marymount University and her Master’s degree from Boston University, both in biology. She joined the College’s Basic Science Department in 1997 and has taught Systemic Anatomy, Embryology, Public Health II, and the Microbiology and Histology labs.

Leila L. Iler, B.S., M.S., Ed.D.

Dr. Iler received her B.S. in 1976 and her M.S. in 1983, both from California State University, Northridge. She received her Ed.D. from Pepperdine University in 1994. In addition, she earned her Certificate of Educational Therapy from the University of California, Los Angeles. She joined the faculty at Cleveland Chiropractic College-Los Angeles in 1984 and has taught microbiology, immunology and academic success, which, along with educational therapy constitute her core professional interests. She has been married for 53 years, and has two children and four grandchildren.

Gyan Khare, B.S., M.S., Ph.D.

Dr. Khare received his early education in India, earning his B.S. degree from Allahabad University and a M.S. from Agra University. He earned his Ph.D., in Microbiology (Virology) with minors in Pathology and Biochemistry from Kansas State University. Khare accepted a faculty position at Baylor University’s College of Medicine, where he conducted post-doctoral research. While an Assistant Professor of Microbiology at Idaho State University, he was part of a cooperation research team that was instrumental in diagnosing a virus disease of potatoes, which was threatening the potato industry at that time.
Khare is the discoverer/co-discoverer of a number of antiviral compounds and drugs, including Ribavirin, which is currently licensed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of Respiratory syncytial virus and Hepatitis C virus infections. He has U.S. patents for the diagnosis of the Hepatitis B virus and various hormones and metabolites in the blood.
A respected scientist, recipient of various research grants and frequently requested lecturer, Khare’s professional travels have taken him all over the world. He is a member of several organizations including the prestigious Research Honor Society, Sigma Xi and the American Society for Microbiology. In addition to his responsibilities at CCCLA, he serves as Director at Heligen Laboratories Inc., in Huntington Beach, Calif. Khare is also a member of the Part I Test Committee, National Board of Chiropractic Examiners, April 2007. In his spare time, he enjoys tennis, badminton, bridge and snow skiing.

Michael R. Valentine, Ph.D.

Dr. Valentine received his B.S. in biochemistry from the University of California, Riverside in 1990, and he earned a Ph.D. in biological sciences from City of Hope Graduate School in 2000. His thesis was on oxidative damage to DNA and RNA and its effects on HIV Reverse Transcriptase Fidelity. Valentine has also undertaken post-baccalaureate studies in microbiology at California State University, Los Angeles. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in DNA polymerase fidelity at the University of Southern California. Valentine has been a member of the Cleveland Chiropractic College faculty since 2004. He teaches Biochemistry I and II and Basic Nutrition.
