Christopher Peditto, B.A., M.A.

Peditto received his B.A. in humanities from Rutgers University and his M.A. in communication studies from California State University, Northridge. He was director of the general studies program at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. Peditto joined the undergraduate department at Cleveland Chiropractic College-Los Angeles as Chair of Humanities and Social Sciences in January 2001. Peditto has been the recipient of three National Endowment for the Humanities fellowships and has published essays, fiction and poetry in various literary publications.

Reza Boroon B.A., M.B.A.

Reza received his B.A degree in Business Administration from Washington State University in Pullman Washington, and his MBA degree in Management from California State University, Dominguez Hills. He joined the faculty at Cleveland Chiropractic College-Los Angeles in June 2001 and currently teaches Business and Economic courses. Reza is currently an Instructional Media Specialist at the California State University, Dominguez Hills. At CSUDH, he also teaches e-Portfolio courses. His outside interests include running, working out, music and movies.

Mira-Lani Bernard, B.A., M.F.A., M.P.W.

Bernard received a B.A. degree in English/Humanities and a master’s degree from U.S.C., as well as a master’s degree from the Iowa Writers Workshop. Bernard also earned a certificate in Distance Education from Thomas Edison State College. She is co-director of Art Options, an art-based general education program founded in 1992. Areas of interest for Bernard include psychology, sociology and writing.

Erika Brockmann, B.S., M.S.

Ms. Brockmann received her B.S. degree in biology/pre-med from the College of William and Mary and an M.S. degree in Molecular and Experimental Pathology from the University of Southern California. Following her graduation, Brockmann worked as a laboratory technician in a prostate cancer research laboratory at the University of Southern California. In 2003, she accepted a position as a biology laboratory technician at the Los Angeles Community College District where she began teaching part time in the fields of biology and microbiology. Brockmann has instructed Introductory Biology and Anatomy/Physiology at the College on a part-time basis. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, backpacking and traveling.

Sion Daftari, B.S., M.S., D.C.
Instructor
Dr. Daftari received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in anatomy and physiology at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, and his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Columbia Chiropractic College in New York. He taught anatomy, human physiology, and microbiology at NY Chiropractic College, SUNY, and Fairleigh Dickinson at the undergraduate and graduate levels for over twenty years, and has on the faculty at Cleveland Chiropractic College-Los Angeles (CCCLA) since 2005. Daftari served as an editor for the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners from 2001 until 2005, and also served as an independent medical examiner for workman’s compensation in the state of New York. He is currently licensed to practice chiropractic in the states of New York, New Jersey, and California. Dr. Daftari’s research publications include: "Effects of toluene on pseudomonas fluorescence and its resultant effects on DNA, RNA, and extracellular enzymes" and "Functional anatomy and histology of peripheral regions of bronchial tree, alveoli and pneumoconiosis."

Sean Higgins, B.A., M.A.

Higgins received his B.A. degree in psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa., and his M.A. degree in social psychology from the University of California, Riverside, with focuses in research methodology, statistics and nonverbal communication. He joined the faculty at Cleveland Chiropractic College-Los Angeles in 2004 and currently teaches courses in psychology and sociology. Higgins is currently a medical student at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. His research focuses on the immunotherapy of neoplastic disease and neonatal critical care. Higgins’ outside interests include surfing, skiing, rock-climbing and other outdoor activities.

Rosalyn Kahn, B.A., M.A.
Adjunct Instructor
Ms Kahn received her B.A. in Sociology and emphasis in Speech from University of California, Santa Barbara and an M.A. in Speech from California State University, Northridge. She has taught Speech part-time for nine years in the local community colleges including Los Angeles City College and Santa Monica College. She was recently recognized as the Part Time Advocate of the Year on behalf of Faculty Association of California Community Colleges. After receiving her M.A. she presented a paper on “Kubler-Ross’s Approach to Death and Dying as applied to downsized employees” at the International Labor Conference in Leuven, Belgium. She joined the faculty at Cleveland Chiropractic College-Los Angeles in 2007 due to a strong desire to impact our future doctors and their communications. Since that time she has been teaching public speaking and health communication to the undergraduates. Ms. Kahn developed chiropractic “shadowing” of student interns in the Cleveland clinic as a portion of her health communication. Outside the classroom, she enjoys cooking, hiking, reading, and photography.

Ms. Fang Liu, M.S.

Liu received her B.M. in medicine from Shanghai Medical University in China, her first M.S. in chemistry from San Jose State University and second M.S. in biochemistry from Rutgers University. Liu has taught chemistry at Los Angeles Community College since 2006. Her outside interests include watching movies, culturing plants, and swimming.

Pandurangan Ramaraj, Ph.D.

Dr. Ramaraj received his master’s degree in medical biochemistry from university of Madras, India and Ph.D. in biochemistry from Indian Institute of Science, India. Dr. Ramaraj carried out post-doctoral research work at Cleveland clinic Foundation and at city of Hope. His research work focused on gene and function study involving transgenic mouse technology, gene transfer technology and gene therapy. His research work on male infertility, CML and sickle cell anemia has been published in scientific journals. Dr. Ramaraj started teaching at CCC-LA in 2004. Currently he teaches Genetics and Molecular biology & Biochemistry.

Therese M. Reignier, M.S., Ph.D.
Adjunct Faculty
Dr. Reignier received her M.S degree in Entomology and her Ph.D. in genetics from the University of California-Riverside. Her Ph.D. research project described the genetic determinants of copper resistance in plant pathogenic bacteria. She also studied biofilm formation in Xylella, a bacterium responsible for Pierce’s Disease on grapes. Reignier went on to become a research scholar at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Her research focused on a family of viruses causing hemorrhagic fevers, more particularly the identification of cellular receptors for these viruses. Her academic interests are microbiology, virology, genetics and chemistry. Outside academia, her interests include gardening and horseback riding.

Siamak (Sam) Sarani, B.S., B.S., M.S.

Sarani received his B.S. degree in physics from Tehran University, and both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from California State University, Northridge. His area of study was control and electromechanical systems. He also graduated from the University of Southern California with a terminal degree in Aerospace Engineering. His research was in spacecraft guidance and control and spacecraft propulsion. Sarani has worked at the Boeing Space and Communications (formerly Hughes Space and Communication) and is currently working at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., as a senior Guidance and Control engineer. He has received many awards of excellence and has both participated and presented at numerous professional seminars. Sarani joined Cleveland Chiropractic College-Los Angeles in March 2000 as a part time Physics and Mathematics instructor. His outside interests include comparative religious studies, advanced space propulsion and biking.

John Paul Tabakian, known lovingly by all as “JP”, received his A.A. degree from Los Angeles Trade Technical College, and his B.A., and M.A. degrees in political science from California State University, Los Angeles. He joined the faculty at Cleveland Chiropractic College-Los Angeles in 2005, and since that time has been introducing students to the exciting world of politics from a theoretical perspective. “JP” began to teach the history of American Culture in 2007 from the perspective of both elite and mass influences in our society. His primary interest is the study of “Transparency” as a form of power used by the United States. Personal interests include spending quality time with family and friends; reading, writing and engaging in various political topics that focus on international conflict.

Paul Tabakian B.S., M.S., Ph.D.

Dr. Tabakian received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Ottawa, his M.S. degree in Chemistry from California State University, Fresno and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Pacific. Tabakian has taught chemistry and physics since 1998, joining the College as one of the first members of the CCCLA undergraduate department. Outside the classroom, Tabakian enjoys lecturing and playing with his cats.

Ivette L. Tapia, B.A., M.A.

Ms. Tapia received her B.A. degree in Human Development and then earned an M.A. in Human Development with a specialization in Leadership Education and College Teaching from Pacific Oaks College. Ms. Tapia began working for Pacific Oaks College in their Financial Aid Office and then quickly moved into the Admissions Department. She worked closely with community leaders in rural areas setting up and implementing Bachelor programs for students who did not have access beyond a two-year Associate’s degree education. She went on to California State University, Dominguez Hills to work in their financial aid department. She joined Cleveland Chiropractic College, Los Angeles in 2006. At Cleveland, Tapia teaches GSCI 101 in the undergraduate program and serves as Vice Chair of the Staff Council. Her outside interests include: dancing, dining, socializing with family and friends, traveling, volunteering to help serve underprivileged communities, coffee, movies, and game night, among many other fun things.

Jason Wiedenmann B.A., M.S.

Wiedenmann received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Park College and master’s degree in atmospheric science from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He joined the faculty in 2003 and currently teaches organic chemistry and physics. Wiedenmann is pursuing his doctorate in environmental engineering in the Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California.
