Welcome to my new blog! As a relatively new member of the Cleveland Chiropractic College campus, I am excited to share my experiences here with you. I am one of two deans for the chiropractic program. I will explain more about my specific responsibilities in a future post.

My position started September 1, 2011. My husband and I left our life-long residence in Minnesota to begin a new chapter in our lives. We really enjoy the Overland Park/Kansas City area. The BBQ is as good as everyone said it would be! We felt welcome on campus right away, and ...

Every trimester we administer two OSCE exams to our interns, one for the newer students and one for the senior students. OSCE stands for Objective Structured Clinical Examination and it involves putting the interns in somewhat realistic situations and asking them to perform a task.

For example, one station will ask the intern to take a focused case history of a patient's problem and the may have five minutes to get as much pertinent information as possible. Another station requires them to look at x-rays and determine what is wrong, if anything. It's a practical exam that could ...

A popular myth I see over and over again online and in print is that the founder of chiropractic, D.D. Palmer, “stole” his ideas from the osteopathic profession and rebranded them under a different name. This urban legend comes in two forms, that D.D. was a student of osteopathy’s founder, A.T. Still or that he was a patient and frequent visitor of Still’s at his American School of Osteopathy in Kirksville, Missouri. While both the chiropractic and osteopathic professions are responsible for sustaining this myth, it is usually accounts of osteopathic history that seem to ...

I cannot believe that our board reviews start Wednesday afternoon. My class will be reviewing material for Part II, Part III and PT (physical therapy). I am glad that these board reviews are given on campus. Due to these reviews, I will not have any of my classes that normally meet throughout the day.

I’ve had a number of people ask me: “Do board reviews help?”  Last year, I found the review to be very helpful.  Specifically, it helped me focus on my weaknesses.  Hence, I hope to do the same this year.

For the past 2ish years I have been in denial. We all know that at some point we will have to take the Nations Board Exams, but knowing is different than the realization that it is about to happen.

The board reviews are this weekend. I will be going to review for Part I. I really can't believe that I have made it to this point. Time has really flown, it seems like yesterday I was begining Tri I.

But even though I am nervous about taking Part II have gotten so much encouragement from the upper Tri students ...

Not that long ago I was reading something a colleague of mine had posted in a chiropractic discussion group that I participate in and it was a GREAT lesson for all of us. In short, my friend had consulted with a chiropractor who was having some trouble in his practice. The doctor had a great practice, his staff was well-trained and he was making a nice living, but he was having some trouble retaining patients and getting referrals from people.

My friend walked through his office and the thing that immediately jumped out at him was that there was a ...
