As we were writing the CUKC blog post, 5 Helpful Resources for Chiropractic Students, we realized that we had more resources than could fit into just one blog, so here we are again! If you are a current chiropractic student, or are considering becoming one, you are making a commitment to helping the whole person. Chiropractic care is more than a passion; it’s a calling. As a doctor of chiropractic, you will change lives without the use of drugs or invasive procedures.
To help you meet your desire to earn your chiropractic degree, we are providing 5 more helpful resources for chiropractic students like you. Here they are! (Oh, you didn’t see the first five resources? You can read them here.)
1. Local Chambers of Commerce
As a doctor of chiropractic, you may choose to own and operate a private practice. Don’t wait until graduation to get comfortable networking and making community partners. If you’ve never been to a local chamber of commerce meeting or networking event, invite a friend and check it out. If there are multiple chambers of commerce near your chiropractic college, make a plan to visit each of them at least twice as you work toward your chiropractic degree.
It’s likely that the chambers of commerce you explore as a chiropractic student will not be the ones you join after you move away from college to start your career, and that’s okay. The experiences and knowledge you can gain from networking and exploring communities from a business perspective are invaluable.
2. Alumni Connections
The alumni from your college know what it’s like to be in your shoes as a chiropractic student. From day one when you step onto campus, you have a special bond with those who have earned their chiropractic degree from that same institution. By reaching out to them through the office of alumni services, you can:
Then, after you’ve earned your chiropractic degree, you can pay it forward by serving in a similar role for current chiropractic students.
3. Financial Aid Office
As a chiropractic student, you have a lot on your mind; financial concerns don’t have to be one of them. Your school’s financial aid office has ways to help you with budgeting, a list of open work-study jobs, and information about scholarships, grants, and loans. Talk with your school’s financial aid team to know where to find the latest news and updates from their department.
4. University Communications
From newsletters, emails, and social media, to on-campus signage, your chiropractic college is trying to get your attention, and for good reason. While not every message you come across is specific to you, it’s worth taking notice. For example:
Bottom line, it’s likely information you need is there for you, and if you choose to take notice of it, great things could happen.
5. Industry Publications
There are multiple ways to access industry publications for the chiropractic profession. Make sure to ask your school librarians what publications you can access for free as a chiropractic student.
One example of an industry publication is Chiropractic Economics, which is a free resource for industry trends, chiropractic news, and practice management.
You might also look to blogs and news stories posted by local and national chiropractic organizations and associations. Ask your instructors about what publications they read and follow. If you enjoy using social media, follow your favorite chiropractic associations’ blogs and new updates on Facebook and Twitter.
CUKC Chiropractic Students
In addition to the resources mentioned above, the chiropractic students at Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) have access to a fantastic team of faculty and staff who are dedicated to the success of each student.
The University’s College of Chiropractic has been a national leader since 1922. CUKC is also the first U.S. chiropractic school to have two Force Sensing Tables in the adjusting laboratory on campus, which help students gain chiropractic adjustment skills and confidence.
CUKC students begin hands-on classes as early as the first trimester. As they progress through the degree program, CUKC chiropractic students intern in the on-campus student chiropractic clinic and then move to the on-campus public chiropractic clinic. These experiences get them well-prepared to be the difference in health care.
