OK, so you’ve decided that chiropractic is what you want to do and the only question that remains is, “What school do I attend?” Well, relax. I have 5 reasons that will make Cleveland University-Kansas City (CU-KC) your choice!
1. The Overland Park area
Now, I know that most of you who are not familiar with the Midwest probably think that Overland Park, KS is just a bunch of barns and cows as far as the eye can see, well it is not. While many places in Kansas do have a small town vibe, Overland Park is quite a lively place. In fact, in 2016 Niche ranked Overland Park #6 as one of the best cities in the U.S. to live. If you are not familiar with the Niche website, it is a tool that reviews schools, colleges and cities based on their crime rate, cost of living, amenities and career opportunities. Also, CU-KC is centrally located in comparison to the other chiropractic colleges, which makes it the perfect site for a lot of seminars. Seminars are a great opportunity to further your education, and the fact that we do not have to travel for a lot of them is awesome.
2. Class Size
In my opinion, the smaller the class size, the better. The student to teacher ratio at CU-KC is 12:1, which offers an optimal learning environment. This allows us to establish a relationship with professors, which in turn, gives them the opportunity to better understand our style of learning.
3. Student body
During my time in undergrad I rarely remember talking to anyone, unless we were working on a group project. That is not the case at Cleveland. As soon as you walk through the front door, every student is willing to offer a helping hand. Whether it is passing on dissection kits for labs or even handing you their notes, everyone understands the position you are in and wants to help. Even the professors have an open door policy, so if you want to talk about classes or even what you did last weekend, they are there for you.
4. Board Scores
So you have passed all of your classes and the time has come to take boards, are you scared? Of course, but one thing that puts my mind at ease is Cleveland’s board scores compared to other colleges. At the end of the day, passing boards is what we need to do to become a chiropractor and Cleveland definitely sets us up for success.
5. Opportunities to get involved
Aside from classes, a great learning tool is getting involved in clubs around campus and CU-KC has plenty of clubs to offer, including: Activator, Motion Palpation, Student American Chiropractic Association (SACA), Sports Council, Pediatrics, Animal Chiropractic, etc. Clubs allow each student to direct their education to what type of chiropractor they want to be. All you have to do to join a club is attend during a time that they are meeting. Most clubs meet over lunch or they decide on a time that works best for the members. There is no limit on the amount of clubs you can be a part of, and you can join any of them that interest you.
Hopefully these reasons have further cemented the fact that you need to join the Cleveland family! If you have any questions, contact the Admissions Office or schedule a campus visit and I can show you first-hand why CU-KC needs to be your choice.
