Congratulations, you just got accepted into Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC)! Now, if you are like me, school is often really challenging and usually takes some extra help to get by. Well, don’t worry, because CUKC has your back (Spine joke unintended!). Of course, there are plenty of other tools to help you succeed, but listed below are the main ones that I have used or plan to use in the future.
Mentors Club
As soon as you step on campus, CU-KC does its best to provide you with a helping hand, which comes in the form of an upper classman. Mentors Club strives to pair each incoming student with an upper classman who can provide you with information about classes or even about hidden gems around the Overland Park area. Your mentor is here to help you with any problems that may arise, which is a critical asset because they were once in your position, so they understand.
Tutoring
During your trimester, you will be taking a wide array of classes. Some of these classes you will pass with flying colors, but others might be over a topic that you are not comfortable with, which is perfectly fine. For those problem classes, get a tutor! CUKC will send out an email before each trimester that will have the contact information of a tutor for each class. Oh, and the kicker is that tutoring is FREE, so definitely take advantage!
Student Body
When I first walked through the doors at CUKC, I was impressed by the student body on campus. Everyone knows exactly what you are going through and they want to lend a helping hand. Whether it’s passing down notes, giving you tips on classes, or just showing you around the University, everyone is here for each other. If you don’t believe me, schedule a campus visit and see for yourself!
Small Class Sizes
During my time completing my undergraduate degree, I had classes with 500+ students. That’s crazy! That is not the case at CUKC. The student to teacher ratio is 11:1, which allows for a great learning environment. Any questions that you have, you can ask your instructor directly. At CUKC, the class sizes are small enough that you actually get to establish a relationship with your instructors, which makes the learning environment that much better!
Student and Outpatient Clinic
One of the greatest tools you can look forward to in the Doctor of Chiropractic program is the student and outpatient clinic, because they prepare you for life outside of school.
These clinics are set up just like a clinic you would walk into around your neighborhood. Patients come into the reception area and wait for you to take them back for their treatment. Since we are student interns and not yet licensed chiropractors. Still, we can practice under the license of the clinicians that are on staff. The clinicians provide input with techniques, writing notes, etc., which is an awesome tool for the students here.
