1. Expand your world
You’ve been moving pretty fast to get your doctor of chiropractic degree in less than four years, so remember, there’s a whole world out there when your chiropractic education finishes up. As you approach graduation, look around for opportunities to best use your talents and personality.
There’s bound to be a civic club or special-interest organization that cares about the same things you do. Now’s a good time to start finding the ones that speak to you. Such actions come with a tremendous benefit: your professional network expands and your ability to influence your community grows stronger.
2. Do something that has nothing to do with your doctor of chiropractic degree
From your chiropractic education, you know how important mental clarity is to your overall health. One way to “take a break” from 3.3 years of intensive study habits is to take a class or do an activity that feeds the other side of your brain.
Even something as simple as identifying a song by only a few notes or writing a Haiku poem will allow your creative side to take control. You’ll find that such actions will reset your thinking and give you more energy for the next step in earning your doctor of chiropractic degree.
3. Volunteer for a cause you believe in
Chances are your college has connections to local volunteer opportunities, which is a great way get better at the art of conversation Starting a habit of “giving yourself away” while getting your chiropractic education is excellent preparation for serving the community in which you’ll live.
Those who spend some time in a volunteer activity say there’s no better feeling than helping others. So, make time to find that one cause that excites you and gives you that feeling of fulfillment and satisfaction.

Diligently following instructions and completing assignments have been essential habits that are making your chiropractic education a reality. Trying to do everything for everyone as an adult will make you crazy.
Your world may seem busy now, but you’ll have dramatically more choices out of school. Learning how to set personal boundaries is essential. Being comfortable with saying “no” to something and not feeling guilty about it will make you a better person, friend, and neighbor.
5. Become a mentor to someone with similar interests
Somewhere in your community is a young person with a desire to help people and an interest in chiropractic care. Just like the younger version of you.
Be on the lookout for someone in who’s fascinated by the health care career you’ve chosen, then share the excitement and challenges of a becoming a chiropractor with them. Give them the inside story about your why you chose to earn a doctor of chiropractic degree.
6. Choose to be a Life-long Learner
Remember to improve yourself in all areas of your life. With your doctor of chiropractic degree, you’re well prepared to help improve health outcomes wherever you choose to practice.
Here’s the thing. No one wants to hang around a lot with someone who’s “a mile deep but only an inch wide.” Be friendly. Be interesting to talk to. Be more intrigued by what someone else does than what you know. Be a life-long learner.
