Updated COVID Procedures at CUKC
Greetings, CUKC community:
Due to the decrease in COVID infections on the Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) campus, the administration is suspending campus COVID reporting, beginning Monday, March 14, 2022. However, all are encouraged to continue following the CDC recommendations for isolation and masking based on their unique situations. Personal protective equipment will continue to be available on the CUKC campus for those who desire it.
Regarding student attendance, the 15% absence rule will remain in place, with the understanding that students with positive COVID tests may appeal if their absence is under 20%. Any additional announcements or modifications to COVID policies or procedures at CUKC will be shared with the campus community prior to their implementation. In the interim, please continue to be respectful of others and maintain good personal hygiene practices.
Your continued cooperation is appreciated.

Masking on the CUKC Campus
Greetings, CUKC community:
For several months, weekly tracking reports have demonstrated that CUKC continues to experience a low number of active COVID-related incidents (Avg. < 1% of 745 Employees & Students). In addition, there has been a downturn in the number of cases in our surrounding community.
In light of these observations, CUKC revises its policy from requiring indoor masking to now strongly recommending universal indoor masking for staff, students, and visitors, in accordance with guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This policy revision is effective, Thursday, September 30.
CUKC will continue to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) at the north and south campus entrances, including N95 masks, for those choosing to utilize them.
Mask requirements for the CUKC Chiropractic Health Center will be communicated separately. Students participating in off-campus clinical rotations will adhere to clinical site requirements.
The University has maintained a measured approach to on-campus COVID-19 mitigation and continues to monitor COVID-19 positivity rates at both the University and the community levels. University policies are subject to change, and should the CUKC COVID-related incidents surpass 3%, the on-campus prevention measures will be revisited.
Remember, if you are not feeling well, stay home and immediately report cases to include symptoms, exposures, suspected exposures, and COVID-19 diagnoses at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/M7JGLSZ. Monitor your CUKC email and the cleveland.edu/covid19 webpage for updates. We look forward to the continued safe campus environment for our students, faculty, and staff.
Stay safe and be well.

Universal Masking on CUKC Campus
Greetings, CUKC community:
Last week, concern about the COVID-19 Delta Variant led the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to recommend that all individuals wear masks in indoor spaces in regions of the country experiencing substantial COVID-19 transmission.
Since then, the variant has continued to spread nationally and is now putting significant strain on healthcare systems throughout Kansas and neighboring states.
In light of this, effective Monday, August 9, CUKC is reinstating a mandate for universal indoor masking for staff, students, and visitors.
A number of other colleges and universities in the region – including Kansas State University, Wichita State University, and the University of Missouri – have enacted similar mask mandates in recent days.
Masks remain available at both the south and north entrances to campus.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Stay safe and be well.

Changes to CUKC Mask Policy
Greetings, CUKC Community:
The University continues to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic, making modifications as needed. CUKC operates using policies and procedures aligned with local, state, and national health officials to mitigate the risk to our entire campus community.
Today, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced that individuals who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 no longer need to wear a face mask in most instances. Based on the University’s low active COVID-19 incident reports and new CDC guidelines, CUKC is lifting the on-campus mask policy effective immediately. This change is part of the University’s measured approach for a deliberate and cautious return to on-campus activities while protecting the health and welfare of our students, patients, employees, and families.
CUKC will continue providing personal protective equipment (PPE) at the north and south entrance, including N95 masks for individuals on campus who need or want to wear them.
The course delivery for the Summer 2021 term will remain unchanged being sensitive to the childcare, commuting, and work arrangements CUKC community members already have in place.
Please remember that if you are not feeling well, stay home and immediately report cases to include symptoms, COVID-19 diagnoses, exposures, and suspected exposures at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/M7JGLSZ.
The leadership continues to monitor health trends and the guidance of local, state, and federal health organizations and will make modifications to our COVID-19 policies and responses as necessary.
Your cooperation, diligence, and commitment to the physical and mental health of our CUKC community members are greatly appreciated. Please continue to show respect and support for one another by remaining flexible.
Thank you. Stay safe, and be well.

Summer 2021 at CUKC
Dear Students:
While the public health departments continue to make significant progress to mitigate the effects of the pandemic, the current information available indicates mask wearing, social distancing, and frequent handwashing protocols are still in place. Registration for the Summer term begins Monday, March 22.
To afford you an opportunity to plan your summer schedule, we have determined to continue with course delivery as follows:
College of Health Sciences
The summer Module I term will begin on May 3 for courses in the College of Health Sciences (CHS). All CHS courses will be held on campus, except for online and hybrid offered courses. All lecture and laboratory instruction for the A.A.S. in Radiologic Technology, A.A.S. in Occupational Therapy Assistant, and B.S. in Human Biology programs are scheduled for on-campus presentations. The smaller CHS classes allow the University to accommodate social distancing requirements within the existing CHS classrooms and labs.
College of Chiropractic
The summer trimester will begin on May 10 for the College of Chiropractic. Course delivery for Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree students will be a blend of remote delivery with limited on-campus lecture sessions. These on-campus lecture sessions will be scheduled over the first 14 weeks of the term, as either one-hour class sessions every other week, or one hour each week, providing face-to-face classroom interaction between the students and the course instructor to supplement the remote course delivery experience. These on-campus meetings will focus on covering difficult concepts, answering questions, reviewing material, and assessments.
Every course (except for ninth-trimester D.C. online courses) will have a minimum of seven opportunities to meet on campus during the summer term. The number of class meetings is dependent on the number of credit hours for each course.
All D.C. on-campus lecture sessions will occur in the Dining and Assembly Hall for the summer term. Specific D.C. course information and schedules for the Summer 2021 term will be available by Friday, March 12.
We continue to monitor health trends and are following the guidance of local, state, and federal health organizations. If health trends continue to improve, it is our hope that we will be able to return to normal delivery of coursework in the Doctor of Chiropractic program for the fall trimester. The course delivery format for the fall will be announced as soon as practical.
Campus-wide
CUKC is offering socially-distanced opportunities during the summer term for students to:
sign up for live tutoring assistance
practice hands-on skills in laboratories
work in the Radiologic Technology Lab
learn in the Occupational Therapy Skills Lab
practice in the Technique Simulation Lab by appointment
learn in the Anatomy Lab by appointment
study in the Library and access library resources
exercise at the Fitness Center
purchase grab-and-go items from the café
offer care in the CUKC Chiropractic Health Center and the student clinic.
The University provides personal protective equipment (PPE) for clinicians, interns, and patients and will continue to follow a comprehensive set of safety protocols.
Classrooms will remain configured for social distancing, and the Facilities team will continue to provide the campus with extensive cleaning and equipment wipe downs throughout the day. All policies and precautions regarding mask wearing, and safety on campus, remain in place as well.
CUKC’s approach to the academic term continues to be driven by our objectives, which are to protect the campus community’s health and safety, sustain the continuity of the student educational experience, and manage risks to protect the future of the University. The continued cooperation, diligence, and commitment of all CUKC community members are essential to keep every student on track with their academic objectives.

A Welcome Message
Greetings Clevelanders,
The University is pleased to welcome all new and returning Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) students, faculty, and staff to the Fall 2020 term. CUKC took a slow and cautious approach in the return to on-campus activities in the face of COVID-19 during the Summer 2020 term. This continues as the fall term begins. This approach is driven by our objectives of protecting the campus community’s health and safety, sustaining the continuity of the student educational experience, and managing risks to protect the future of the University.
CUKC continues to follow recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment (JCDHE) to include screening upon entering the building, wearing masks, and maintaining six feet of social distance. The Facilities team provides extended cleaning and equipment wipe-downs throughout the day in the classrooms, labs, fitness center, and Health Center.
Classrooms have been reconfigured to allow proper physical distancing per the CDC’s current guidelines.
On-site food service will not be provided until further notice.
The information that follows serves as an update and a reminder regarding the Fall 2020 course schedules, and the return to on-campus administrative services.

Procedures for returning to on-campus skills labs
Greetings!
I am pleased to announce that we will begin to carefully reopen the Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) campus so that students can return to participate in skills labs. Let me first say that we look forward to having you back on campus! However, we must take the proper precautions to stay safe as we begin this measured and deliberate transition back to our normal activities.
To mitigate the risk to our students, patients, and employees, CUKC has adopted policies and procedures aligned with the State of Kansas Ad Astra, and the Johnson County Kansas Economic Recovery plans of phased-in return to work. We believe that by adhering to the COVID-19 mitigation guidance, we can provide ongoing instruction in the skills labs, and patient care in the CUKC Chiropractic Health Center. To do this successfully, we must all work together.
Your cooperation is essential to keeping all students on track with their academic objectives. Following the procedures below (effective on 5/26/20) benefits us all. As previously projected, the Radiologic Technology and Occupational Therapy Skills Labs begin on May 26, and the Doctor of Chiropractic Skills Labs (technique and hands-on diagnosis labs) will begin on June 15.
Entering and Exiting the Building
Note: Students returning from outside of Kansas will implement a two-week, self-imposed quarantine based on the Kansas guidelines. If you are experiencing symptoms of fever, runny nose, loss of smell, loss of taste, or diarrhea, please seek medical attention. Do not come to campus if you feel ill.

Plans for a Safe Return
Welcome back, Clevelanders:
To assist the campus community in moving forward and planning for the Summer 2020 term this communication outlines the Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) plan for a safe return for selected on-campus activities, to include patient care in the CUKC Chiropractic Health Center and hands-on skills laboratories. This plan follows the phasing recommendations outlined in the Reopening Johnson County Plan and is subject to change.
On May 20, 2020, the CUKC Chiropractic Health Center will reopen on a limited basis to provide community patient care. A comprehensive set of safety protocols will accompany the opening. In addition, the University will provide personal protective equipment for clinicians, interns, and patients.
The Radiologic Technology and Occupational Therapy Skills Labs will remain online until the University determines it can safely begin in-person, close-contact teaching, and learning. These labs are projected to begin on May 26, 2020.
The Doctor of Chiropractic Skills Labs (technique and hands-on diagnosis labs) will remain online until the University determines it can safely begin in-person, close-contact teaching, and learning. Social distancing will be maintained with the exception of specific skills lab activities and direct patient care. Chiropractic skills labs are projected to begin on June 15, 2020.
Until further notice course delivery, science labs, student assessment, and examinations remain online for all degree programs and are accessible through the Canvas Learning Management System. Campus administrative services continue to be offered remotely and remain accessible by email and phone.
University leadership is taking a slow and cautious approach to phasing-in the return to on-campus activities with the key objective of protecting the health and welfare of our students, patients, employees, and families.
Please remember that these plans are subject to change. Be alert to monitor your CUKC email, the announcements on Canvas, and the cleveland.edu/covid19 webpage for updates. The academic and CUKC Chiropractic Health Center leadership will continue to provide updates as necessary.
We look forward to the safe and measured return to campus activities.

To CUKC Students, Faculty, Staff and Administration
Congratulations on the successful conclusion of the Spring 2020 term
I hope you are healthy and safe, and that you and your loved ones are managing these changing times as best as possible. Although our in-person interactions have been interrupted, and we are forced to be apart physically, I feel immense gratitude for the strong bonds and commitment shared among the members of our university family.
COVID-19 has been disruptive, but it has not derailed meeting our academic mission. The effective pivot by Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) to remote instruction and administrative services, and how quickly this transition has been embraced by all involved, have been vital to the successful conclusion of the Spring 2020 term. This transition could not have been achieved without the commitment and tremendous resilience shared by our entire community of students, faculty, staff, and administration.
Looking forward, the Summer 2020 term will begin with course lecture and lab sessions in a remote format across all CUKC degree programs. The academic and CUKC Chiropractic Health Center leadership will release details for a phased-in return to selected on-campus activities through separate communications when appropriate. Plans are subject to governmental authorization for a return to campus. While a date for opening the entire campus is still unknown, the current planning provides for a return to patient care in the health center beginning Monday, June 1.
To all members of our faculty, administration, and staff, I am most grateful – you have risen to the many challenges that we are facing. This time of change has brought out your finest instincts and best work, to the enduring benefit of our university, and the students we serve.
And, to our students, we recognize that this has been a time of challenge and uncertainty. Be assured that CUKC is making every effort to sustain a quality educational experience in light of these unprecedented conditions. We are here for you, and we thank you for your cooperation and support.
Looking forward to our next opportunity to connect and share the path ahead.
Stay safe, and be well!

Financial Aid stipend distributions remain on schedule. Students receiving financial aid should complete their 2020-21 FAFSA, and accept their aid in the student portal. Questions regarding Summer 2020 student registration may be directed to the Office of the Registrar.
All academic policies regarding attendance, class participation, academic progress, and course completion requirements, remain as published.
The entire campus community is eager to return to on-campus course delivery, and to resume patient care in the Health Center, as soon as possible. Planning is in progress to address contingencies as they may arise.
