College of Chiropractic

Become a chiropractor and transform lives by championing a natural, drug-free approach to health and well-being.

Doctors of chiropractic are healthcare professionals specializing in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mechanical disorders of the spine and other parts of the musculoskeletal system. Chiropractic care is about helping people feel great and get the most out of life by functioning at their optimal potential.

At Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC), promoting health is about more than good posture or proper spine and joint function. It’s also about teaching your clients to embrace behaviors that prevent disease and improve health through diet, exercise, and healthful behaviors.

Why CUKC’s College of Chiropractic?

We have been educating doctors of chiropractic for more than 100 years, and we are known for our personal touch and connection with our students and graduates. In fact, a member of the founding family — Dr. Carl S. Cleveland III — serves as president and a professor. You will see Dr. Cleveland in the classroom and be mentored by him and our other experienced faculty.

While you will take classes in a variety of subjects, like anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, patient examination, and diagnosis, you will also participate in hands-on labs and independent and group study projects, and you will receive a robust clinical internship experience providing direct patient care.

In addition to our on-campus Chiropractic Health Center experience, senior interns have additional opportunities to provide patient care in various off-site multidisciplinary community healthcare facilities throughout the KC metro area, including the KC Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

While our accelerated Doctor of Chiropractic degree can be completed in just 3.3 years (10 trimesters), more flexible options are available. Qualified applicants can enter the chiropractic degree program in the fall, spring, or summer.

Dual B.S./D.C. Program

You can maximize the value of your education with our dual degree program. Earn your Bachelor of Science in human biology or Bachelor of Science in exercise science and complete the Doctor of Chiropractic program in less time.

Our B.S./D.C program is a great option if:

  • You have not yet graduated college or do not have a bachelor’s degree
  • You do not have 90 semester hours with a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • You need additional science prerequisites to prepare for the rigor of the professional Doctor of Chiropractic curriculum

Our dual B.S./D.C. degrees program will help you reach your ultimate goal of becoming a chiropractor in less time.

“One of the things that I loved about being at CUKC was everybody recognizing we were all in this together. There were times when one of us was struggling in a class, and everyone came together to have study sessions. We did what was needed to make sure that everybody was on the right path forward.”

-Khia Simmons, Doctor of Chiropractic, 2020

Benefits of Our Chiropractic Program

In our Doctor of Chiropractic degree program, you will join a supportive community where faculty and fellow students will help lift you up and support your success.

Benefits of our chiropractic program include:

Value. We offer one of the most affordable Doctor of Chiropractic degree programs in the nation and one of the most valuable. For eight consecutive years, we have led doctor of chiropractic schools in national board licensing exams with a 95 percent graduate passing rate within six months of graduation.* Lower costs, high board passage rates, and a 0 percent student loan default rate equals a good value.

Superior Facilities. Our Technique Simulation Lab is a valuable feature for developing the psychomotor skills for chiropractic manual adjusting. The Sports Performance Center and Exercise Physiology labs prepare graduates who want to incorporate sports and athletic performance as part of their practice. The chemistry and human dissection labs, the fitness center, the early childhood learning center, and our full-service cafe are also valued campus features.

A Great Place to Live and Study. Overland Park, Kan., is part of the Kansas City metro area and regularly ranks on “best places to live” lists. The University is located within easy access to major interstates and is a 30-minute drive from the Kansas City International Airport.

Personal Career Advising. Chiropractic business coursework — which will help you get career-ready — is part of the curriculum. In addition to business courses, our Success Strategies and Career Connections programs provide additional opportunity and preparation for real world chiropractic practice success. Academic support services and complimentary tutorial services are readily available.

Specialization. During your time at CUKC, you’ll have the opportunity to complete specialty certifications in sports performance, functional movement assessment, pediatrics, and acupuncture. We also have an articulation agreement with Options 4 Animals, located 45 minutes from campus, if you would like to pursue certification in animal chiropractic.

*95 percent of CUKC graduates pass all parts (I, II, III, IV) of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) exams and are eligible to be licensed to practice chiropractic within six months of graduation. This is the latest four-year average (2019–22), demonstrating consistency in high-quality instruction.

Chiropractic Career Options

A chiropractic career enables you to choose your own path, be your own boss, and set your own hours. Most importantly, you will enjoy the priceless reward of the genuine gratitude of the men, women, and children whose lives you change through chiropractic care.

In addition to opening your own business, you can also work as an associate with another chiropractor or become employed as a provider within corporate wellness centers, in a multidisciplinary clinic, or with the Veterans Administration.

Through our Career Connections program, local and regional practicing doctors of chiropractic meet on campus with senior interns to discuss associateship, partnerships, and practice opportunities available upon graduation.

A career as a doctor of chiropractic can be both personally and professionally rewarding. According to salary.com, chiropractors earn $139,612 a year on average.
