Every trimester I just cannot believe how fast time flies by. It seems like just a week ago we were starting this fall trimester and getting ready to take Part I board exams. But, believe it or not, finals are just a few weeks away, and so are the holidays. Here are a few ideas of fun holiday events that you can enjoy when taking those study breaks.
Every year there is an ice-skating rink and a Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Crown Center. The ice skating is already open, but the lighting ceremony won’t be until the day after Thanksgiving. The lights will be turned on by the Mayor of Kansas City, Sly James, and Olympic skating champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White. Skating costs a few dollars but the lighting ceremony is free to attend.
The Plaza lighting ceremony is Thanksgiving night starting at 5pm. There will be a variety of entertainment throughout the night, and the lights will be turned on by Jack Sock, a local tennis player that brought home a gold and a bronze medal from the Rio Olympics. There will be fireworks and music to finish up the night.
Snack Time with Santa
This event is here at Cleveland University-Kansas City. For students with kids that don’t want to go to the mall to see Santa, they can come here! Our Student Council is hosting this event on Dec. 3 at 9 a.m. There will be cookie decorating, plenty of hot cocoa and coffee, and of course, pictures with Santa!
Okay, I know this doesn’t sound like a fun holiday event, and I have to agree. But you are required to be here if you want to pass your classes so hear me out. Every year approaching finals week before Christmas, the school has a day where they help the students relax. This year it is Thursday Dec. 1. There will be a breakfast buffet, a holiday movie, a chair massage, an essential oils station, and a small gift. All of this is offered free to students so that we can go into finals and the Christmas season refreshed and ready to go!
So, there are just a few of the possibilities to help you enjoy the holidays. I’m sure that I’ve just scratched the surface of all the fun events going on in the area. There is something available for everyone, and most of them are pretty low in cost. Hope this helps everyone have happy holidays!
