So, with about a month of classes left in this trimester, it is both an exciting and exhausting time. Exciting because we’ll be able to mark another successful trimester in the books. Exhausting because the learning never stops and neither do the tests, seminars and presentations. With so much happening it is easy to lose sight of why we’re all here in the first place, the desire to help others. However, in order to be of service to our fellow man, self-care is paramount. Here are my remedies for revving up your motivation when you’re running on empty:
.) Remember. We all have a chiropractic story; something that brought us to this profession. Reminisce by writing it down or talking to a friend or stranger about the power of chiropractic in your life.
.) Re-inspire. Shadow a local doctor and get a glimpse of your future, beyond Cleveland University-Kansas City. Interacting with patients reinforces the idea that there are people in need and we will be able to help them.
.) Re-energize. Pamper yourself with an at home spa night or get a massage at one of the local spas (some even offer a student discount). You are working hard to become the best chiropractor you can be and you deserve to be spoiled a little.
.) Re-focus. Denzel Washington once said, “We do what we have to do now, so we can do what we want to do later.” Do the work: write the papers, give the presentations, and pass the tests. You’re going to be a doctor, it is supposed to be difficult. If being a chiropractor was easy, everyone would do it.
.) Rest. Sleep is absolutely one of the best restorative acts you can do. And let’s face it, all nighters aren’t as fun as they used to be. Get adequate sleep to help facilitate better performance and less of a crash at the end of finals.
