A high-tech breakthrough that delivers more precise patient care is revolutionizing chiropractic school education: Force Sensing Table Technology.TM Leading chiropractic schools are using the new technology as an important step in ensuring students’ technical knowledge matches the standards of the working world after graduation.
Delivering a quality adjustment with the appropriate application of force is a key to success in chiropractic care, so mastering the precise level of force that’s effective is crucial. The new technology gives students an increased confidence in their techniques, because the FSTT shows the results immediately and records them for later review. Training without FSTT relied on practitioner instruction and the experience of the individual provider as a guide to the correct level of force required.
Introducing Force Sensing Table TechnologyTM
Developed by Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, the FSTT table uses integrated force plate technology to take precise measurements of force generated by the user during an adjustment.
When the patient is positioned on the table, it measures the manual force applied in three different directions: floor-to-ceiling, head-to-toe and side-to-side. It also calculates the amount of force used prior to thrust, as well as the speed and the direction of the adjustment. An additional advantage is the table’s ability to capture video of the user’s actions. This creates a visual reference for the user to compare their actions to the performance analytics displayed on the monitors.
Advantages of FSTTTM in Chiropractic School
In addition to reinforcing mastery of techniques and amount of force, the force sensing table shows students in chiropractic school the different ways force affects patient care and provided real-time feedback. When doctors of chiropractic can accurately reproduce force levels that have proven more effective, patient care takes a step forward.
FSTTTM at Cleveland University-Kansas City
Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) is home to one of four chiropractic schools in the United States that have integrated Force Sensing Table TechnologyTM into their curriculums. CUKC students began training with the new table in March 2017 and installed its second table on March 5, 2018. CUKC is the first US chiropractic program to have two Force Sensing Tables on campus. It’s considered the latest achievement in an ongoing goal to use best teaching practices and new technology. CUKC also was an early adopter of electronic health records, a current “health care standard” used by most health care institutions and practitioners.
CUKC began as a chiropractic college nearly 100 years ago and remains a pioneer in the profession. In 2015, the college expanded into a university where the Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) remains a cornerstone program. CUKC is a health-focused, nonprofit, private educational institution located in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of the Kansas City Metro that is proud to be recognized a leader in chiropractic and health sciences.
