Many people resolve to get in shape during the new year, but sometimes people stray from their goals. The reasons vary, maybe it’s the cost of the gym membership, the distance from the gym itself, or in some cases it’s the environment inside that’s the issue. But, at Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) none of those issues are a concern. The Fitness Center makes it easy to work hard.
Block your schedule
For those CUKC students who have yet to take advantage of the CFC, it’s located in the Cleveland Professional Building, which is less than a two-minute walk from the main building. If you’d like, take a virtual tour online before visiting the CFC. The facility is free for all students and family members over the age of 18 and is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It’s only closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, which means you have 363 days a year to use as you see “fit.”
What to expect
All you need to access the CFC is your CUKC student I.D. card. The swipe card system is a safety feature, designed to only allow authorized users in. And unlike other places, you’ll likely see familiar faces. Once you’re inside, there’s nothing to hold you back from getting a quality workout. There is a full complement of equipment, including free weights, circuit weights, treadmills, elliptical machines and stationary bikes available for use. In addition, there are rooms for yoga or group exercise, if those activities are part of your fitness regimen.
Easy-peasy
Because of its proximity to campus, the convenience of the CFC is unbeatable, which is why it averaged approximately 700 visits per week during the last term. Early mornings and evenings are popular, but some students are able to workout during the middle of the day when they have a break in their schedule. They can then use the on-site shower facilities, and be ready to return to class just minutes later. Another nice feature is that lockers are available inside the fitness center. The only requirement is that users must provide their own lock.
Stay focused
It’s understandable if you struggle to stay motivated, many people do. You may need distractions to make it easier. Satellite music plays in the fitness center, and televisions are available on some machines. But, if you truly hate working out, sometimes the best weapon is a solid playlist of workout songs. There are playlists available for nearly every activity, and with minimal research, you’re sure to find one that can help you achieve your fitness goals.
Regardless of the activity in which you engage, research has shown that the benefits of working out are undeniable, so try to make it a priority this year. Maybe a good solution is to push your friends and colleagues. Challenge members of your class to match your efforts on the free weights or the treadmill. Better yet, get your class to challenge another in a fitness competition. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter who is the victor, everybody wins if they are staying active.
In addition to the Cleveland Fitness Center, CUKC offers other amenities to help strengthen your mind as well as your body. If you’re ready to take the next step in becoming the difference in healthcare, request to talk to an advisor or schedule a tour today!
