A good friend of the chiropractic profession recently visited Cleveland Chiropractic College-Kansas City (CCCKC). David Chapman-Smith was on campus Nov. 2-3 to share with Clevelanders his insight on the role of chiropractic in global health care. While at CCCKC, he gave a presentation to the Foundation in Philosophy and Science of Chiropractic class taught by Dr. Carl S. Cleveland III. The following day he offered a second presentation open to all students, faculty and staff.
Chapman-Smith has been secretary-general of the World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) since 1988, and is editor/publisher of The Chiropractic Report. He has been involved in many joint projects for both the WFC and the World Health Organization. His association with chiropractic began in 1978 when he acted as counsel for the New Zealand Chiropractors’ Association before the New Zealand Commission of Inquiry into Chiropractic. Since that time, Chapman-Smith has served as a legal consultant for many chiropractic organizations internationally.
Health care plays a prominent role in Chapman-Smith’s life as he is married to Dr. Sira Borges, a doctor of chiropractic and medicine. In addition, two of his four brothers are medical specialists in New Zealand, and two of his four stepsons are chiropractors in Brazil.
