Cleveland University-Kansas City Expands its Health Sciences offerings
On Wednesday, September 19, Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) received approval from the Higher Learning Commission to begin offering the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Radiologic Technology degree program. This two-year program prepares students to meet the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) Radiography Examination education eligibility requirements needed to become registered and certified technologists.
In addition to traditional classroom instruction, students gain experience on campus in the University’s functional radiologic equipment rooms and demonstration suites. Students in the CUKC Radiologic Technology program also receive hands-on training and clinical experience on campus and in partner clinics throughout greater Kansas City and surrounding communities.
Radiologic Technologists perform diagnostic imaging, such as X-rays, for physicians to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of a disease or trauma. They must work with patients and technology to safely ensure consistent and quality diagnostic imaging used to save life and limb.
Jason Elliott, director of the CUKC Radiologic Technology program, stated that the inaugural Radiologic Technology class is scheduled to start in January 2018. The Radiologic Technology program is the second new program to receive approval in 2017 at CUKC as part of the University’s planned College of Health Sciences expansion.
Dr. Cheryl Carpenter-Davis, CUKC Dean of College of Health Sciences, is guiding the expansion and anticipates that the University will continue offering more health science programs to meet a broad range of health care careers that promote wellness and align with the University’s mission.
“The Radiologic Technology degree program at CUKC will prepare future technologists in a health-focused, learning environment where they are exposed to professionals who share a passion for wellness and making a real difference in the lives of others,” Carpenter-Davis said.
