Administrators from Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) and Central Methodist University (CMU), Fayette, Mo., have signed an agreement to permit qualified students from the CUKC B.S. in Exercise Science program to take advantage of an early review process for admission into the Master of Science (M.S.) in Athletic Training degree offered by the Central Methodist University School of Health Professions.
The agreement, signed by Carl S. Cleveland III, D.C., president of CUKC, and Roger Drake Ed.D., president of Central Methodist University, sets aside two class seats per year for CUKC students who meet the CMS application criteria for the M.S. in Athletic Training.
“Our mission, for more than 100 years now, has been focused on educating and developing leaders in health promotion,” Diane Bartholomew, CUKC vice president of academic affairs, said. “We see this agreement with CMU as another way to expand this mission.”
Melissa Denton, CUKC director of admissions, said students intent on a career path in athletic training should explore this option. “Streamlining processes from two institutions focused on developing healthcare practitioners is always a positive,” she said. “This agreement creates a simple, direct path for these academically strong students to transition from one institution into another.”
To be eligible for admission, qualified CUKC students must have sent a letter of intent to apply to the Central Methodist University Master of Science in Athletic Training Program a year prior to starting the program.
Under the CUKC-MNU agreement, CUKC students admitted can begin the M.S. in Athletic Training program after completing their B.S. in Exercise Science degree. Other criteria include accumulating 75 observation hours under the direction of a Certified Athletic Trainer and a cumulative college GPA of at least 3.25.
