Cleveland University-Kansas City (CU-KC) welcomed more than 30 guests to campus Oct. 16 for a “Discovery Day” open house. Hosted by the Office of Admissions, the day offered potential students the chance to explore the curriculum, tour the campus and talk with current students and professors. The popular event was the final open house at Cleveland for 2015.
Guests traveled to the Kansas City campus from Missouri, Florida, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Arkansas to explore a career in chiropractic and the health sciences. The day commenced with a greeting from Melissa Denton, director of admissions, who then introduced Dr. Carl S. Cleveland III, president, who shared information about the University, health care careers and background on the chiropractic program at CU-KC. The potential students were rapt as they listened to his message.
The visitors had the opportunity to witness a mock adjusting lab, tour the Anatomy Lab and attend a Q&A session with a panel of current students. The Q&A allowed the guests to hear details of student life at Cleveland and inquire about a wide variety of topics relevant to a potential student.
“It was a lively group that was interested in everything that Cleveland had to offer,” Denton said. “There were questions not only about academics, but also the social side of CU-KC.”
The final portion of the day was a presentation by Cleveland alum, Dr. Dean Dierkson ’13, who shared his personal experiences as a new practitioner.
He aligned himself with the audience saying he was sitting where they were “just a few years ago,” attempting to make a decision about his future. Now, with his career firmly in place, Dierkson connected with the group through patient stories and how he is able to make a difference in the lives of people every day.
CU-KC holds three open houses each year for prospective students. The next event is scheduled for March 25, 2016
