When I first came to CUKC I was clueless as to where any of the locally-owned businesses were. I was now living in a major city with all of the usual chain restaurants, but I was craving those “Ma and Pa” shops from back home. With that being said, I thought I would let all the new students in on a couple of my favorite places to eat, drink, study, or just escape the big city atmosphere for a little bit.
Coffee Shops
Broadway Café – If you are looking for a café with plenty of character, this is it. It is nestled down in the Westport district, so it can be a drive, but it’s totally worth it for one of their caramel macchiatos.
Pour Coffeehouse – This is a great option if you are looking for something new to try. They are always coming up with new lattes, and not to mention, they have amazing gluten free pastries!
Black Dog Coffeehouse – A great place to study with plenty of large tables and plenty of coffee options.
Revocup – Mmm, the Zebra Mocha is my favorite!
Restaurants
Sushi Mido – If you are like any of my friends, a couple of rolls will never do, so we normally go here for all-you-can-eat sushi for $25. The only catch is, whatever you do not finish, you have to pay full price for, so be sure to bring along lots of friends to finish what you cannot!
Jon Russell’s Barbeque – You will hear from multiple students about different BBQ places that they claim to be the best, but if you are looking for some smoked wings, I highly recommend checking out the pineapple, habanero wings on Wednesday Wing Night.
Burg and Barrel – Best place, in my opinion, to grab a good hamburger and beer.
Nick and Jake’s – This is my go to place for any kind of food! There isn’t a thing on the menu that I’ve had, that I haven’t liked!
The Other Place – All I can say is, order a pizza!
