When most Major League Baseball and National Football League teams make room on their staff for chiropractors, it’s clear that athletes are finding chiropractic care to be a winning strategy for being at the top of their game. Athletes of all ages want to reach new personal bests, and that’s why chiropractors are extending their expertise by becoming a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP).
The Right Program Gives You Advantages
You care about helping people improve their lives, so you’re drawn to the ways a Doctor of Chiropractic can improve health through natural, non-invasive treatments for chronic pain, injury recovery, and muscular-skeletal conditions. The right program for a Doctor of Chiropractic degree will get you where you want to be. And when it’s time to specialize, a certification like CCSP – Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician – can get you the attention of athletes at all levels of competition.
The CCSP certification broadens and sharpens chiropractic skills while opening the door to an increased annual income. More than 460,000 student-athletes are competing at all levels of NCAA and NAIA sports today, and another 16,000 are elite athletes competing in various levels of pro, amateur, and Olympic competitions.
Taking on the CCSP Challenge
Doctors who wish to pursue the CCSP must have postgraduate education in chiropractic sports medicine or a closely related discipline. After that, chiropractors apply to sit for the exam by the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (ACBSP), the CCSP governing body.
While taking on additional hours of instruction in combination with running a busy chiropractic practice seems like a tall order, the CCSP can be achieved through special education sessions conducted in four weekends at various chiropractic universities.
In addition to 50 hours of live instruction, another 50 hours of coursework can be conveniently completed online. Many states allow these hours to count as a chiropractor’s continuing education units (CEUs). More information about the Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician program is available at DConline.
The Doctor of Chiropractic Degree at CUKC
Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) is a private, nonprofit chiropractic school in the Kansas City area that’s been a pioneer in the field of chiropractic and health sciences for nearly 100 years – more than one out every 10 chiropractors in the U.S. is a CUKC graduate.
CUKC’s reputation as a chiropractic school in Kansas City extends deep into the healthcare community. This network not only covers relationships with clinics and medical offices, but also larger entities like the Veteran’s Administration hospitals in Kansas City, Mo., and Topeka, Kan., and the Kansas City CARE Clinic. In 2019, CUKC chiropractors and interns began serving in the area’s Caritas Clinics, which serve primarily minority and Hispanic-speaking populations.
