There are a number of factors that play into deciding where to attend school to become a chiropractor. There are obvious ones such as where family or friends are, but there are also key factors that might not be initially thought of. These important factors are location, board scores and atmosphere.
1. Location: This is a something that I did not initially consider, but I found it to have a great impact on my decision-making. Where you decide to go to school will be your home for up to four years, so it is important to investigate. Things to look into are: what is there to do in the area, as well as affordable living arrangements, and quality of school districts etc. for anyone with kids.
2. Board scores: This is a very important factor that I was ignorant of before entering chiropractic college. Board exams are what you must take to obtain your chiropractic license. How well a school does, on average, on these exams will play a pivotal role in your future. Each state requires a different minimum score on these exams to practice. A school with higher average scores will help ensure you are able to set up or join a practice anywhere you choose.
3. Atmosphere: The atmosphere that the faculty and students of a college provide is an important one. You will be spending over 30 hours a week at a school, typically, for chiropractic. Therefore, a positive atmosphere at school makes that time far more enjoyable. When looking into schools, ask a student about the atmosphere to see if it’s one that will suit you well.
