Mission Trips: They’re Back
Many universities postponed scheduled trips in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting travel restrictions. Still, many are re-engaging in healthcare missions or volunteer work trips for the 2021-22 academic year.
If you’re planning to attend a university delivering healthcare degrees, you could volunteer to assist them. Soon-to-be healthcare practitioners will likely appreciate non-healthcare majors who can serve in support or organization roles.
How Valuable an Experience is it?
In 2020, Robert Coty Spraggs, a student at the Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) College of Chiropractic, saw for himself the good his team had for a Dominican Republic community with few healthcare resources.
“Trips like this matter because these people are born into situations and environments in which change can be nearly impossible,” Spraggs said. “We helped a lot of people while we were there.”
At CUKC, the international mission trips are coordinated and sponsored in conjunction with the Christian Chiropractic Association (CCA) and Caring Partners International (CPI). The CUKC short-term mission trip in 2021 is to the Dominican Republic.
Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) is a private, nonprofit chiropractic and health sciences university located in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of the Kansas City metro.
CUKC was founded in 1922 as Cleveland Chiropractic College and became Cleveland University-Kansas City in 2015 in recognition of its expansion into new healthcare-focused areas. Our 34-acre campus is home to more than 500 students from 29 states and three other countries.
In addition to its College of Chiropractic, the University offers various other degrees through its College of Health Sciences. These include an associate of arts (A.A.) in biological sciences, associate of applied science (A.A.S.) degrees (Radiologic Technology, Occupational Therapy Assistant), and bachelor’s degrees (B.S.) in Human Biology or Exercise Science.
