Many people tend to look forward to the start of a new year because of all that it symbolizes. For many, a new year is a fresh start and a new beginning. We get to look forward to what the year will bring us, and set new goals for ourselves. At this point in the program, there are many things to look forward to at Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC).
This trimester I am in Intro to Clinic II. I was excited when I made it into Clinic I, and now I get to continue with that excitement as I learn more and more about what it’s like to be an intern in the clinic. This is just another opportunity to get a taste of what I will be doing for the rest of my life. When you sit in a classroom for hours a day learning material you’ll need to know in your practice, it’s nice to have a class where you can actually start to apply it.
One of the next things I get to look forward to is becoming an intern in the Student Clinic this summer. Once I have completed the Intro to Clinic classes, I will become an intern in the Student Clinic. This is also when I will get to invite my family to attend my Business Card Ceremony. This ceremony officially marks our start as interns in the clinic. As an intern in the clinic, I will be able to treat fellow students as patients. I will be responsible for scheduling appointments, coming up with treatment plans alongside the clinicians, and providing my patients with the care that they need.
In the fall trimester of this year, I will officially start my final year at CUKC. I will hopefully begin finishing up the requirements in the Student Clinic, and move to the Outpatient Clinic. At that point, I will be able to treat people from the community. Becoming an intern in the clinic seems like something that I thought would never come when I started as a student here. This whole journey has gone by so fast, and I cannot believe that I am already approaching the end of the program. Looks like 2017 will be an exciting year, and I cannot wait to see how it all plays out!
