The California Chiropractic Association (CCA) recently announced their support for a political candidate who is a graduate of Cleveland Chiropractic College’s Los Angeles campus. Dr. Bill Jose Uriarte ’77 is running in the Democratic primary for the 7th Assembly District which encompasses Santa Rosa, Napa County, Vallejo and Fairfield.
The endorsement of Uriarte is indicative of the CCA’s desire to elect doctors of chiropractic to the state legislature. Uriarte is seeking the seat vacated by Assembly Member Noreen Evans who, because of term limits, will “term out” in 2010. As voters in the district are overwhelmingly Democratic, the winner of the primary is expected to face little resistance in the general election.
Since graduation, Uriarte has practiced in Santa Rosa, Windsor, Rohnert Park and the Los Angeles area. He now practices on-call throughout Sonoma, Marin and San Francisco counties. He has been chair of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and was named one of the “Top 25 Leaders of Sonoma County” in 1992 by the Santa Rosa Press Democrat newspaper. Uriarte previously served CCA as secretary and second vice president, and was named “Doctor of the Year” for 1982-83.
