The faculty at Cleveland Chiropractic College now has new representation, as the new Faculty Council officers for the upcoming year were recently announced. Serving for the 2011-12 year are Dr. Deborah Denno, president; Dr. Steve Agocs, vice president; and Dr. Michael Mitchael ’92, secretary. Serving as representatives are Dr. Brittany Gorres-Martin, Dr. Jon Wilson ’03 and Dr. Erin Stubblefield. Electronic ballots sent to all part-time and full-time faculty members were to be submitted by Oct. 10.
Denno succeeds Marcia Thomas, who had been council president for the past two years. Although she is new to the office, Denno is excited for the opportunity to serve her colleagues in this important role.
“I believe very strongly that each person or group in an organization is its own unique and important piece of that organizational puzzle, Denno said. “Faculty Council represents that diverse group of individuals working to provide a quality education for our students. It also provides a means of communication between faculty and the administration as we work toward that goal and mission of the College.”
Established in the early 1980s, the group’s bylaws indicate that Faculty Council was formed to create an opportunity for faculty “to contribute to the internal governance of the College and to provide a forum for all College faculty to discuss issues of mutual interest and concern.” The council meets the first day of each D.C. trimester, and two additional times, for a total of three meetings per trimester. Elections are held in the fall of each academic year and there are two-year term limits for each office.
In the last two years the council has been busy with revisions to several documents, including the Faculty Handbook, the required syllabus format and the Faculty Council Bylaws. In addition, they were responsible for the creation of two documents, “Evaluation Survey: Department Chair,” and “Faculty Satisfaction Survey.”
The new officers were officially installed on Oct. 21 during their first meeting. Besides Thomas, other outgoing members were Dr. Charles Dorlac, vice president; and representatives John McGlaughlin and Dr. Richard Strunk.
