Cleveland University-Kansas City is among the 109 Kansas City-area companies to receive a Gold Level or higher Healthy KC Certified designation in 2017.
The designations for platinum, gold, silver, bronze and honorable mention recognize entities in the Kansas City metropolitan area that have a strong health and wellness culture and encourage healthy workplace activities. Nearly 250 organizations joined the initiative in 2017.
The Healthy KC Workplace Wellness Certification Application examines health and wellness actions across five pillars of health:
- Physical Activity
- Tobacco Cessation
- Work-Life Integration
- Design & Built Environment.
"Our vision is to be a leader in health promotion," says Dr. Karen Doyle, director of the M.S. in Health Education and Promotion
program. "Recognition for the things we do – such as maintaining a tobacco-free environment, healthy rewards program, recycling, flex benefits – are all connected to creating a healthier future."
A division of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, the Healthy KC Workplace Wellness Action Team makes its choice based on responses to a Workplace Certification Application. Companies must re-apply for the designation each year.
"Gold Level Certified means you are doing remarkable things for your employees in the health and wellness space," the Chamber's Rich said.
Healthy KC is a partnership of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC), and various regional health and wellness leaders. The partnership advocates solutions that help shape individual, organizational, and environmental health change.
