Each year since 2017, the Kansas Independent College Foundation (KICF) presents a student from each Kansas independent college a Maud Wyatt Recognition Scholarship. Each student must achieve a GPA of at least 3.5 to qualify. Cleveland University-Kansas City’s recipient for 2020 is Sophie Yancey, a student in the CUKC Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant program. She is from Independence, Mo.
“We always want to celebrate the achievement of our students, and we are pleased the KICF selected Sophie for recognition with this scholarship,” Vice President of Enrollment Management Alex Bach, said.
Recipients are full-time, degree-seeking students nearing graduation from their degree programs. According to the KCIF, all 20 of the scholarship recipients demonstrated leadership, character, and attention to academic excellence. In their applications, they also expressed appreciation for the impact their private college education is having on their lives.
KICF is a not-for-profit corporation founded in 1952 to promote the financial support of its member institutions. The Maud Wyatt Educational Trust is a trust bequeathed to the KICF in 1961. The intent of the MWET is for the funds “to be fairly and equitably distributed among the private colleges and universities which may be participants” in the KICF and “for the sole purpose of aiding in their general educational work.”
