Just like it is never too early to apply to Cleveland University-Kansas City (CU-KC), it is never too early to start planning for your future, and life after chiropractic college. One resource that many who are applying to Cleveland may not be aware of, is Dr. James Anderson. Dr. Anderson is not only a chiropractor, but a business advisor as well. He runs a program called “Success Strategies” where he meets with a group of students a few times each trimester. The goal of the program is to make sure that when a student steps off the stage on graduation day, they have a plan for the future. He covers a multitude of subjects within his program, here are just a few:
• Raising your credit score
• Deciding what route is the best for you, whether that’s opening your own practice, doing an independent contract, or being an associate for a couple years
• How to choose a location
• How to review contracts, business loans, create a business plan and so much more
Now, you might be sitting there thinking this is pretty overwhelming. That’s okay, because I was there too. The most important thing is to just get started. So this past year, in preparation for my future, I have learned what my credit score is and with Dr. Anderson’s help, I’ve learned some different tricks of the trade to raise it. Also, I have created a budget in order for me to be able to tuck away some money every trimester toward my future practice. I have also researched different cities, one of which, I hope to call my home some day. This next two-week break, I will actually be taking an extensive trip to visit the different locations, and hopefully really pin down where I would like to practice, so I can then continue to build towards my future.
If there is one piece of advice I can give to incoming students, it is to start planning for your future. And if you are not sure of where to start, well luckily for you, if you attend CU-KC, you will have Dr. Anderson.
