No matter how much you love something, sometimes that passion can overwhelm you to the point where you just need a getaway. Space and time to clear your mind…to re-center yourself. Having to study for boards over the trimester break, then returning to the grind of chiropractic college as well as taking boards, I feel as though I’ve not had time to clear my mind for quite some time. That is, until this past weekend when I traveled to San Diego.
Now, before you get the wrong idea, it was not just a mini-vacation in the middle of the trimester. I was traveling for a chiropractic event, Epic Impact. Over the course of two days, I experienced an abundance of growth not only as a chiropractic student, but also as an individual. I re-centered myself, I was reminded of why I chose chiropractic as a career, and why week after week I return to the grind.
I wish I could say that you would never question why you were putting yourself through this madness of chiropractic college, but I can’t. There are going to be days where you are like, “Yes, I am owning it.” And then there are going to be days where you wonder why you have to learn how to prepare a gram-stain. All I can say is continue to push. Push yourself every day to discover your why.
I attend as many chiropractic seminars as I can afford because it’s hearing the seasoned doctor’s miracle stories of chiropractic that is going to keep you going. It serves me a constant reminder of why I study the science, why I practice my technique every day, and why I study my philosophy…it’s all in preparation for the patients I will one day serve. Whether it’s the grandpa who just wants to be able to play with his grandchildren, to the child who is not thriving.
I returned to school this week with not a newfound passion, but with it burning so much more. So, whatever you have to do to keep your love for chiropractic growing and the stress of school buried, discover it. It will be what keeps you going when you doubt yourself.
