A lot can happen over a 162-game baseball season, even to professional athletes who are in tip-top shape, eat right, and take care of themselves. So, when big-league pros pull a hamstring or get hit by a pitch, they often turn to the team Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) to keep them diving at line drives and cranking out homers all the way to the postseason, and maybe even the World Series.
Since 1995, the Kansas City Royals MBL team has employed Dr. Patrick Hammond, D.C., one of the best doctors of chiropractic in the game. Dr. Hammond’s enviable position at the heart of a winning Major League Baseball team is emblematic of what leads people all over the country to consider a chiropractic career and choose a chiropractic program.
Dr. Hammond, a 1997 graduate of Cleveland University-Kansas City (which went by the name Cleveland Chiropractic College back then), works with players by providing chiropractic adjustments, treating injuries, and offering advice to help the body heal itself. By keeping athletes in tip-top shape, sports chiropractors are addressing and preventing injuries.
Baseball is not the only sport that relies on chiropractors to keep players on the field. Football players play far fewer games than baseball players, but they’re subject to bone-jarring hits every time they step on the field. Pro leagues from soccer to hockey to tennis use chiropractors, as do Olympic teams.
Another CUKC grad, Dr. T.J. Hackler, works with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs and is a former college football player.
Cleveland University-Kansas City (CUKC) is a national leader in chiropractic and health sciences education. More than 1 in every 10 chiropractors in the U.S. graduated from the CUKC chiropractic program. When CUKC Doctors of Chiropractic (DC) graduate, they’re ready to be partners in wellness for athletes and armchair warriors alike. Depending on their interest, some D.C,s choose to become Certified Chiropractic Sports Physicians (CCSP) as part of their continuing education.
