Getting hard evidence that something is true has never been more challenging. Luckily, first-person testimonials do provide a hefty dose of reality. Boast, a company collecting and studying user experiences, says real-life stories in users’ own words give prospective customers a truer, more in-depth look at nearly everything, “so they can decide whether it’s right for them.”
Following that line of thinking, here are five different perspectives from chiropractors representing solo and group practices. Each has a different take on why they chose the doctor of chiropractic degree. All of them are certain the profession was the right healthcare career for them.
From One Family to Another
Dr. A.J. Hernandez
Doctor of Chiropractic degree
Class of 2019
“When I went to school, I immediately met two mentors that were going through the doctor of chiropractic degree program. I met with them for 45 minutes, just asking questions…them hooking me up with everything I needed to know. My parents were like, ‘You gotta go for it. You’re going to be affecting so many lives in this profession.’”
A Matter of Work-Life Balance
Dr. Sherri Hayes
Doctor of Chiropractic degree
Class of 2011
“A common question I get is about work-life balance. I have free weekends because you can get everything done at your chiropractic office during the week. Then, you can go home and enjoy your time. We have twin boys. So you are able to run a successful practice and also have a great family life.”
Her Delayed Journey Became a Reality
Dr. Khia Simmons
Doctor of Chiropractic degree, 2020
“…during that 10-year span, I was being a mom…and my plan was that once the kids reached school age, I would explore going to chiropractic school. I wanted to be able to help people, to have their lives changed for the better because of something that I can do for them. And that’s what I did. It’s been an amazing journey.”
Making a Difference in People’s Lives
Dr. Whitney Haase
Doctor of Chiropractic degree
Class of 2019
“I’m happy that I’m a chiropractor, and I’m where I am today. We’re able to affect people in a way that a lot of other medical professionals can’t. If your goal is to make a positive impact on people’s quality of life, chiropractic is a wonderful career to get you there.”
Natural Solutions for Many Health Problems
Dr. Samuel Somerhalder
Doctor of Chiropractic degree
Class of 2018
“Often, symptoms are signaling an underlying imbalance somewhere. I like to see patients do a trial of chiropractic care or try nutrition. If they start with that, they might have some or all of their problems taken care of without drugs or surgery. Right now, chiropractors only see about 10% of the population. I think people are starting to come around. There are natural solutions to a lot of problems, and as time goes by, more people are going to chiropractors.”
