The Los Angeles and Kansas City campuses of Cleveland Chiropractic College recently held “Day of Welcome” activities to greet all students starting classes this fall. New students were able to familiarize themselves with the campus and to complete any last minute details prior to the start of classes. More importantly, it gave all students a chance to interact with each other in a relaxed setting.
The “Day of Welcome” concept took the place of what was formerly known as orientation day. Previously, students arrived on campus and went through a lengthy introductory period that included paperwork, instructions and a wide range of other administrative tasks. Lasting several hours, the process was constructive, but offered the students little time for social interaction.
Recognizing the importance of the social aspects, the College implemented a new system whereby nearly all of the orientation tasks are completed prior to the students’ arrival on campus. The “Day of Welcome” was then devoted to social development among classmates.
