The best thing about going on a tour of Cleveland University-Kansas City (CU-KC) is that your guide is a current student. We are able to give you an “inside scoop” of what to expect while attending classes and answer any questions that you may have. While there is a wide range of questions that I get, there are 5 questions that always seem to come up. So go ahead and cross these off your list, because I have the answers!
What is a typical class size and where can I access my notes?
To address class size, that is dependent on when you start. Generally a larger class starts in the fall and has around 60-65 students. The smaller classes usually start in the summer, which is when I started, and my class had 19 students. Pertaining to schoolwork, all of it will be posted to an online portal that is easily accessible through CU-KC’s webpage. This allows you to access all of your notes and see your grades throughout the trimester.
Are the teachers approachable?
The student to teacher ratio is currently 11:1. This allows you to have a comfortable learning environment while being able to establish a relationship with your teachers. Also, all of the teachers have an “open door” policy, so as long as their office door is open, you can go on in!
Can I work while in school?
While it is not recommended, there are still students who work and go to school. What I recommend is to get a feel for your trimester and then decide if you can handle the extra workload. CU-KC has plenty of opportunities to work on campus, which is perfect because they are very understanding of your class schedule.
How long are you at school during the day?
A typical day on campus ranges from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Of course, that depends on if you like to stay on campus and study, and what trimester you are in. I think in the third trimester, one of our classes didn’t start until 9:30 a.m. Woohoo! Sleep in!
How much time do I need to dedicate to studying?
This is dependent on how efficient you are at studying. Personally, I do not study much during the week; I get all of my studying done on the weekends. A lot of people study each night and then take the weekends off. It really just depends what works best for you and how much time it takes you to learn the new material.
